Happy anniversary to us!

December 9th, 2008 at 02:51 pm

Today marks 19 years of marriage for me and my wonderful hubby! We'll celebrate by....doing nothing special. We don't usually exchange gifts or cards, and I have to work and go to class today, so it's really just business as usual. I know a lot of people go to a fancy dinner or trip to celebrate anniversaries, but we just don't do it. Some of my friends think that's odd, but I think some of the things they do are odd also, so it doesn't bother me in the least.

What about all my SA friends? Do you celebrate lean? or extreme? or somewhere in between?

    Happy Anniversary!!!

We celebrate lean, too! We usually exchange cards at a minimum. If we get a chance to go out...it is a free movie and an inexpensive dinner.

Honestly, and I know it sounds corny, but I feel happy most days that we are married, as does husband, and we communicate that with each other! On our anniversary, we always "relive" the day with each other according to what time it is. "Now we're getting ready." "Now we're married." "Now we're eating cake." "Now we're driving." Approximations, of course.

We will be married 19 years in April. I was 23! I really think we'll try to do something for the 20th, like take a trip (with the kids, since they are a huge part of what our lives have become). But normally, we don't have a big celebration. Heck of the 18 anniversaries we've had so far, I was pregnant or nursing an infant for 8 of them. I always consider it a really special day, though.

Hey, another December wedding. Happy anniversary!

We like to make a fuss, even if it can't be expensive. This year we had to tone it down, so we sort of bought gifts (practical things), got carryout food, and drank a bottle of wine. It's the everyday behavior that's more important than the once-a-year gesture, I think.

Swimgirl, it doesn't sound corny at all. I think the celebration happens all year long, not just one day. We don't relive the day moment by moment, but we do remember the highlights - justice of the peace was late (and drunk!), the hall was mostly decorated with Christmas decorations and not much wedding decor, and we celebrated our honeymoon 2 weeks later with a trip to the inlaws! LOL

Happy anniversary. We use to celebrate pretty big, take a trip or a cruise. Now we just go out to dinner to celebrate. No gifts anymore.

Happy Anniversary! My husband and I celebrated our 1st anniversay in August by staying at the same cabin that we stayed in on our honeymoon. Who knows what next year will bring! Whatever feels right to you is how you should celebrate it.

19 years...a long time! Congrats! We barely celebrate and we had our 13th anniversary in September. Just don't like to spend the money I guess. This year we grilled steaks at home. M. is a wonderful cook.

Happy Anniversary! This year was our 30th. DH spent it with our older daughters at the 49er's opening game in San Francisco. I was back in NC with our new granddaughter. I guess that's like our honeymoon, DH went gambling and I went to see Grease!
