Weekly grocery update

November 11th, 2008 at 05:02 am

I saved 34% on shopping trips this week for groceries, household products, and dog food. Total before coupons was $196.64. Coupon savings was $67.60, and the total after coupons was $129.04. Groceries & household totaled $76.38 ($121.35 - $44.97 coupons). Dog food totaled $52.66 ($75.29 - $22.63 coupons).

For the year, that decreases the average per week to $133.14, down from $133.23. Still too high, in my opinion, but at least it's going in the right direction - DOWN!

Cool. Groceries are such a challenge. Although, my last shopping spree a couple days ago totalled $165.00, but with coupons and sales, I paid around $75.00, saving me $90.00. The check out guy said "you did a good job".

Looks like I need to take lessons from campfrugal! I get most of my coupons from the newspaper (which I only buy occasionally), All You magazine from Walmart, and I check out places like hotcouponworld dot com and vickysdeals dot com which often have links to internet printable coupons. Some stores don't take those, I've heard, but all in my area do so far. I also spread my shopping around several stores, matching coupons to their sales, so I might hit 5 stores in one week. I'm 25 minutes from any grocery store and an hour from some others, but I combine the trips with other errands so I'm not spending extra gas just to save the money.
